Family #11: Myra - ADOPTED

Myra was shocked when she received the news that she was pregnant shortly after having her baby girl, Jeniyah. She knew this would be difficult because she already had a five-year-old boy and an eight-month-old baby girl. Her shock turned to fear after learning that she was pregnant with triplets.

Myra previously lived in Florida, where she experienced complications with her pregnancy. While in Florida, she got the news that her mother, who lives here in Pennsylvania, was having difficulties with her health.

These circumstances led her to relocate back to Pennsylvania so she and her mother could support each other. Her brother helped her move, and her mother began helping to care for the children. They were looking forward to the holidays as a family; however, on October 5th, her mother had a massive stroke, was hospitalized, and went into a coma. Myra is still traumatized from that moment, as there was nothing she could do.

She was beside her mother in the ICU for seven days, barely leaving her side, crying and begging for her mother to wake up. Myra began to experience pain in her left kidney, and doctors found that she had a blockage, which required an emergency procedure and regular follow-up visits to the hospital.

When Myra was released from the hospital, her mother was still in a coma. She and her family made the difficult decision to allow her mother to leave them with dignity. Myra continues to experience the pain of being unable to be by her side until the end of her life.

Myra does not know what the future holds for herself or her babies. She lives in her mother’s home and may now lose her housing as she does not have the money to afford it. Myra is now unemployed because she has been focusing on being her mother’s caregiver. Her small savings will go towards giving her mother a proper burial.

Myra’s triplets will be born in May, and her most significant need is a triplet stroller with car seat attachments. She is a single mother and will need to figure out a way to travel with her babies. The stroller is a necessity that will allow her to help properly care for her new triplets.

How has CGLH made an impact on you and your family?

“I have been coming here since my son was born five years ago, and sometimes it’s hard to admit and reach out that we need help, and I’m so grateful that this place has never made me feel bad. They have always tried to lift me up, empower me to push me, and help me move forward.”

What are some long-term goals that you are working towards?

"I am working on getting my own place for me and my kids now that my mom is no longer here. Once my triplet girls are here, I’m hoping to be able to get back on my feet and have them in daycare, so I can go back to school or to work. “

What is one thing you would like our community supporters to know about the Life House?

“Don’t ever be ashamed to reach out and ask for help. They are always there to help as much as they can or even as listening ears. The last time I was there, I could barely keep it together; the tears ran down my face I felt destroyed, like I had nothing else to live for, and they listened to me and talked to me and helped me overcome this. I know with love, God, and strength, everything will be ok. I wanna thank you guys so much for everything.”
